Phantom Ship sails again on bay of Chaleur
by Aloma Jardine

Special to The Northern Light

The Story of a ghostly ship aflame in Chaleur Bay has been part of the heritage of this region for longer than residents can remember.

Few have had the privilege of actually seeing the legendary Phantom Ship. Its appearance is unpredictable and infrequent.

But on the morning of Aug. 26, The eerie ship sailed in the bay once more and was spotted by Donald and Lois Hudon of Bathust.

Mrs. Hudon said her husband getting ready to leave for work from their Janeville cottage around 6:20 a.m. when he came back inside and asked for his binoculars.
He thought that one of the herring boats in the bay had caught on fire.

"He looked then said 'Come here and see this'". Mrs. Hudon said.

"With the naked eye it was just a glow," she said, but with the binoculars the Hudons could clearly see what looked like a flaming ship out in the bay.
