Martens and Fishers
Introduction

Marten live in dense forests and cedar swamps and are nocturnal. The marten which lives in the area of the Mississagi Valley lives far from any human civilization so they are very seldom seen. However, this doesn't stop trappers from getting their precious furs. During the day they spend their time in trees, but they also go foraging on the ground, eating fruits, bugs, insects and birds.

The fisher is much larger than the marten, but they have much the same habits, except that the fisher eats larger mammals. It is one of few predators which feeds on porcupines. They are also trapped for their good furs.
