Cuddly as a raccoon may seem, they are ferocious creatures when cornered, and few predators will tangle with them. They are known to prey on cats and chickens. Racoons are extremely bright creatures, and have a very sensitive sense of touch. They are known to be very curious.

Racoons prefer to live in deciduous forests, in areas surrounded by lots of lakes and streams, like the Mississagi River valley area. They live in cavities in trees usually at least 8 meters high. Others prefer homes in abandoned burrows, or even under rocks.

Racoons are easily distinguished by the markings on their faces, which almost appear mask like, and by their ringed tails. They can be spotted in the forest, or along the edge of the forest. However, the most common place you spot them is digging through your trash.
