Robert Spickler

Robert Spick­ler has worked in the edu­ca­tion and cul­tural sec­tors for over 35 years. He was the co-founder, co-director and admin­is­tra­tive direc­tor of Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui (1970–1979) and admin­is­tra­tive direc­tor of Théâtre du Nouveau-Monde (1985–1987). Mr. Spick­ler has also held var­i­ous posi­tions at the Canada Coun­cil for the Arts (1983–1985 and 1987–1990). From 1990 to 1995, he was the exec­u­tive direc­tor of the Mon­treal Sym­phony Orches­tra and from 1996 to 2008, was the asso­ciate direc­tor of admin­is­tra­tion and finance at the Cana­dian Cen­tre for Archi­tec­ture. He was a mem­ber of the advi­sory group charged with devel­op­ing arts and cul­tural pol­icy in Que­bec (1991) and presided over the devel­op­ment and man­age­ment of the Museum Col­lec­tions Cen­tre in Mon­treal (1997–2003), the only one of its kind in North Amer­ica. He has been a mem­ber of sev­eral boards where he has held a vari­ety of posi­tions. Mr. Spick­ler has also been very active on the inter­na­tional scene, hav­ing served as vice-president of the exec­u­tive com­mit­tee of UNESCO’s Cana­dian office and pres­i­dent of the finance com­mit­tee at the Inter­na­tional Coun­cil of Muse­ums (ICOM).
